SLR Consulting have a requirement for a permanent Petrographer/Geologist  position

 
SLR have an exciting opportunity for an early career petrographer to join a growing team of professionals working predominantly in the Irish extractive industry.
You will be based in Dublin, but with potential for site work and travel throughout Ireland.

Your role involves undertaking hand specimen and thin section petrographic examination of rock, aggregate and concrete samples from across the country and preparing technical reports. Petrographic analysis is carried out for clients and applied research, including the development of new and novel approaches to the assessment of construction materials.

Job Description  
Your duties and responsibilities:

You will be part of our existing Geology team, working primarily in the aggregates and industrial minerals sector. The role is primarily lab-based, but with potential for field work. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
•    Hand specimen analysis of aggregate for compliance to various standards
•    Detailed thin section analysis in polarised and reflected light
•    Preparation of technical reports
•    Fluorescent light microscopy will also be required for concrete samples
•    Liaising with client and other laboratories.
•    Receipt and logging of samples into SLR’s system
•    Sample preparation and handling of samples
•    Reviewing, interpreting, and reporting the results of routine aggregate analysis
Key Responsibilities
What you will bring to the role:

•    Degree in Geology/Earth Science
•    Good petrographic experience
•    Ability to work unsupervised after an appropriate amount of training
•    Well-organised, with good attention to detail
•    Some knowledge of quarry industry
